Many companies are starting to understand the impacts of food waste – on the environment and on their bottom line – but they often need an additional resource in the form of a dedicated, third-party expert providing data-driven knowledge that can help advance a strategic food waste initiative.

That’s why ReFED is excited to announce that we’ve teamed up with Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) to offer the first-ever Food Waste Fellowship as part of EDF’s Climate Corps® program – the go-to resource for companies working to meet their sustainability goals while also launching the careers of the climate leaders of tomorrow.

“ReFED is thrilled to be partnering with EDF to launch the new Climate Corps® Food Waste Fellowship,”  said Angel Veza, Senior Manager of ReFED’s Capital, Innovation & Engagement team. “This is an exciting opportunity for leading companies to get help in advancing their food waste reduction and climate goals – it’s got all of the benefits of the Climate Corps® program with added support, resources, and tools from ReFED.”

A limited number of companies will have the chance to host a fellow in 2022 supported by both EDF and ReFED to help design and execute food waste reduction strategies. Climate Corps® Food Waste Fellows are driven, enthusiastic graduate students who come armed with skills in data analysis, communications, and business acumen; they receive customized training from EDF and ReFED experts on the environmental and business impacts of food waste, as well as the rapidly emerging marketplace of solutions to ensure they are well-equipped to support participating host companies.

How can your company be a part of this special program? Host company applications are now being accepted, and interested companies are encouraged to review and submit their application here.

ReFED is a national nonprofit working to end food loss and waste across the food system by advancing data-driven solutions to the problem. ReFED leverages data and insights to highlight supply chain inefficiencies and economic opportunities; mobilizes and connects people to take targeted action; and catalyzes capital to spur innovation and scale high-impact initiatives. ReFED’s goal is a sustainable, resilient, and inclusive food system that optimizes environmental resources, minimizes climate impacts, and makes the best use of the food we grow.
